Merci Fernandez (SL9) | Peru
Orange Marmalade, Grape
We met Merci Fernandez on our first sourcing trip to Peru last year, where we spent time with the team at Origin Coffee Lab—our trusted export partner in the region. This is a small lot of the unique SL-9 variety - light, floral and brimming with notes of green grape and blood orange. SL9 is a cross between Kenya’s celebrated SL28 and the resilient Timor Hybrid. Grown at high elevations in Peru, Colombia, and beyond, it delivers jasmine florals and tropical fruit sweetness. A varietal that balances resilience in the field with refinement in the cup.

Mecca was founded in 2005 and immediately set out to answer the big questions that are often asked in the specialty coffee industry. “Who grew this coffee?” “How much did they get paid?” and “Why does this lot taste so different from the last one?” Their pursuit of transparency at the farm level has led them to offer a higher level of service and quality to their customers across Australia. Uncompromising standards from day one is the reason that they have thrived in the specialty coffee industry since.
