Boon Boona coffee are committed to sharing the unique coffee traditions of Africa. Founder and CEO Efrem Fesaha is from an Eritrean family but grew up in Seattle and used his understanding of the two vastly different cultures to make is mark on the coffee industry. After his initial business plan to open an East African coffee shop was rejected by banks, he remained persistent and in 2011 began importing quality green coffee directly from Ethiopia instead. Cuvée coffee started tinkering with the status-quo in 1998, when they began building their own direct trade network to ensure consistent access to high-quality coffee. From there they built a world-class lab in Austin, TX, where their roasting craft was honed to enhance each unique coffee to the best of its potential. Fast forward to now, Cuvee is constantly searching for the best coffees from around the world. Their Direct Trade model is a signature of dedication to ensure direct relationships with  growing partners and a commitment to pay fair prices as they cultivate sustainability.

Deeper Roots has been roasting since 2011 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Their focus lies on equitable, long term relationships with growers, bringing their stories to the front and centre of releasing and marketing their coffees.

What started as a garage project now is a dedicated facility in the North Idaho Panhandle, where the community of DOMA is enlivened by artists, thinkers and outdoor enthusiasts, and the team put love and care into everything from packaging and artwork to traveling directly to origin to better understand their coffee at its source. DOMA contribute to communities both local and abroad through philanthropy and outreach, but Terry and Rebecca keep it real, still out there every morning preparing their brew on a hand grinder.

After being laid off their jobs in the midst of the late-2000's economic downturn, Julia Mayer and Todd Stewart took the plunge and opened a cafe named 'The French Press' on State St, Santa Barbara. They felt that their community deserved a special place to enjoy delicious coffee, and their optimism and hard work paid off. After a few short years, they were opening more locations and were operating at a scale where they could source and roast their own coffee! By 2016, they reinvented themselves as Dune Coffee Roasters, and remain at the forefront of delicious coffee... even taking out second place at the United States Barista Championship in 2018 and 2020!

Today, Equator coffee roasters operate seven retail cafes in the San Francisco Bay Area and has an expanding national wholesale business with partners including Google, LinkedIn, Twitter, The Thomas Keller Restaurant Group, Williams Sonoma, Whole Foods, Joie de Vivre Hospitality, The Wing and We Work. For the last 15 years in a row, Equator has remained on The San Francisco Business Times’ list of the Top 100 Women-Owned Businesses and was the first LGBTQ Certified business to win the National SBA Small Business of the Year.

They took a pioneering approach to sourcing coffee through a relationship model, placing emphasis on direct trade as a way to support thriving livelihoods for producers at origin. They earned Roast Magazine's prestigious 'Roaster of the Year' award in 2013, are home to the first barista union in the USA and are currently transitioning to a worker-owned company. Gimme! Coffee roasts all their coffee on two Probat drum-style roasters at their facility in Ithaca, NY.

With 22 cafes in New York and a roastery in Long Island City, Joe Coffee Roasters mission is to serve excellent coffee with warm hospitality in every one of our communities. Joe believes the secret to a great coffee experience relies just as much on the quality of coffee as it does the expertise of the barista, which is why they foster and promote the continued education and success of their baristas through industry-leading professional training. As an early pioneer of artisan coffee to New York 17 years ago, they're proud to continue innovating, growing, and leading as the specialty coffee movement expands.

Klatch Coffees Roasters were born as a result of nurturing relationships with the farmers who grow the beans. Klatch believe that the art of their coffee begins right where the seeds are planted. That's why green buyer and roastmaster Mike Perry travels the globe to get the earliest possible look and taste of the results from each harvest. Klatch's commitment to honest business practices means building trust and loyalty with the farmers they work with. All of this is accomplished through a Direct Trade model and a simple handshake. That's the way they do business. After the beans are sourced, they make their way to Southern California where the quest for only the best continues. Mike uses his degree in Chemical Engineering to achieve a balance of science and sensory prowess they call “Peak of Flavor” roast style.

Over time, their tagline was developed: Better People, Better Coffee. With a focus on creating real careers and caring for them well, they've been able to cultivate a team brimming with passion and talent that you can truly taste in every bag. Recently pushing into the North Texas market, KLLR is poised to grow throughout our region and make better coffee possible for more people.

Kuma, meaning 'bear' in Japanese, was inspired and named after both the founder's bear-like shaggy dog and a visit to Japan. It began in 2008 as a garage roastery in Seattle, then quickly grew to nationwide recognition. Kuma's continued keeping its operation intentionally small, in order to remain fully focused on quality and deliciousness. Kuma purchases the majority of their seasonal coffees direct from origin, paying a premium to farmers well above the commodity or fair trade thresholds.

Ladro has always valued sustainably and ethically produced coffee, adopting a 'fair trade only' since 2000. Around 2011 they launched Ladro Roasting, which opened up the ability to source green coffee through direct relationships and reach a country-wide customer base.

Today, Madcap coffee roasters runs cafes in Grand Rapids and Detroit. Roasting takes place in Grand Rapids and is distributed across the United States. No matter where you are, Madcap hope you can see, sense, and taste the experience they work so hard to create.

Methodical Coffee opened their cafe in 2015 in Greenville, South Carolina with pennies in the bank. Luckily, their first day of trade saw a line out the door that stayed there until closing time – popularity hasn't waned since! They claim their success is based on three pillars: exceptional product, customer service and experience. Their roasting operation began in 2016 and strives to bring the same quality, service and experience to all their customers.

Metric coffee roasters are a collection of people, stories and places all centered around coffee. Since day one, their philosophy has been twofold: quality coffee and people over profit. Sourcing from established partners, Metric coffee roasters pay high premiums and publish transparency reports to offer real full-spectrum equity, believing "the future of coffee depends on it". They're inspired by doing good and achieving excellence at every corner. Anything that involves people and coffee — they breathe, live and own it. We'll drink (coffee) to that!

They say that one question was asked over and over by farmers and exporters during their travels: "What will it take for you to buy more of my crop?" The answer was, this! A roastery aiming to bridge the gap between prices paid for ultra-premium boutique lots and the vast majority of coffee from any given harvest. By doing so, Necessary Coffee are making good quality approachable for everyday enjoyment, and ensuring viable business for producers.

Olympia Coffee Roasters humble beginnings started in 2005 as a wholesale coffee roaster living by the philosophy "We exist to improve the quality of life for coffee farmers, for our staff and for our customers". Olympia coffee founders Sam & Oliver believe coffee of today has the potential to be better than at any point in history primarily as a result of better relationships and communication throughout the coffee chain. This allows them to understand and control the variables that contribute to the flavors and overall quality of a coffee.

Onyx takes the concept of coffee transparency to great lengths, publishing their roasting and trade data on their website for curious customers to read over. They roast sustainably sourced coffees every weekday from their carbon-neutral, solar-powered facility, and live by the motto "Never Settle for Good Enough".

Panther Coffee specializes in sourcing and small-batch roasting high quality, directly traded coffees and in the education of preparing coffee beverages. Proud Mary was founded in Melbourne, Australia in 2009. The husband-wife duo, Nolan and Shari Hirte sought to offer products and services to improve your day, setting an industry wide standard in sourcing, roasting and preparation of delicious coffee. After almost 30 years in the biz, PT's coffee stays on track by asking the same question: "is our coffee the best it can be?" This guides their judgement and motivates them every day to succeed on their own terms, rather than anyone else's. Founders Jeff Taylor and Fred Polzin began in 1993 and after establishing two retail locations began sourcing their own green coffee and roasting it in-house. Now almost 80% of their coffee is procured through a Direct Trade program, striving for long-lasting relationships with environmentally conscious producers at origin. They were named Roaster of the Year by Roast Magazine in 2009 still receive plenty of accolades for their dozens of blends and single origins.

Since its birth in 2007 to this day Quill's holds fast to its original goal of creating the perfect blend of fine coffee and southern hospitality — excuse the pun. It's built relationships with international coffee producers to bring passion and education to its local community and beyond. Quills sources, roasts, brews and serves excellent coffee to it's cafe patrons from Louisville to Indianapolis and now your kitchen nook.

The company was founded by Jared and Deanna Linzmeier as a small roasting operation, built out of the spare room of Jared's childhood home. Thanks to Jared's extensive experience in roasting and sourcing coffee for some the industries best, Ruby coffee has quickly gained a reputation for quality. They're known for showcasing complex and dynamic lots of coffee from small farms that were either sourced directly or through small like-minded import/export companies. They also place a strong emphasis on accessibility, choosing to roast their coffees to optimal flavor and sweetness with ease of brewing in mind.

Sightglass coffee roasters believe knowing the story behind your coffee – where it was grown, how it was processed, who handled it along the way – is a powerful link between the cup and the wider world. Taking their name from the roasters view of the a green coffee bean (hard as a stone) as it goes from raw to roasted, losing density while activating sugar-browning flavors ready for fresh grinding and brewing. Not all roasted coffees are created equal, Sightglass adopts a perfectionist attitude when it comes to the meticulous analysis and development of their product.

Square One Coffee Roasters are an award-winning micro-roaster based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The family-owned business has spent the last 16 years roasting and serving some of the highest quality coffee in the world.

Temple Coffee Roasters are a quality-focused roaster from Sacramento, California. They source their coffee directly from producers and believe each individual coffee deserves its own approach. They customise tailored roast profiles to best showcase the distinctive qualities of each new lot that comes through the doors. Temple's sourcing and roasting team believe's great coffee is no accident and strive to reach the pinnacle of flavor and aroma for every coffee, with every roast, every time.

Thou Mayest, like all the game changers, started in a garage in 2012. Since then it's come to produce some of the best coffee in the region with an equally exciting movement in satisfying a need for community and connectivity. They do this by partnering with artists, activists, business owners and shopkeepers to help community thrive.

Upper Left Roasters seeks to address common issues in the industry: climate change and gender inequity. By focusing on sustainability and strong farmer relationships Upper Left is able to produce consistent, unique coffees while farmers can earn better incomes and invest back into their crops. 
Just as Upper Left invests in its coffee, it invests in its baristas and training. Much of the roaster's time and energy is driven into staff education and training, so individual careers can thrive.

Verve came to be through the serendipitous union of surf, sweat and a love of life and living. In 2007, founders Ryan and Colby built and opened the first Verve cafe on 41st Ave in Santa Cruz, California. Today, Verve has locations in cities from Los Angeles to San Francisco to Japan, with roots remaining planted in Santa Cruz, where they roast coffee on vintage roasters and enjoy the endless surf of the rugged Californian coast.

Zoka Coffee Roasters opened their doors in 1996 and have been serving freshly roasted beans and espresso beverages in their coffeehouses ever since. They're based in Seattle and are still owned and operated by Jeff Babcock, a person who spent 13 years touring the world as a Cup of Excellence judge. This reputation is the advantage sets the Zoka's coffee offering apart, as sourcing many of the quality lots is made possible through the strong relationships forged during Jeff's career. All roasting takes place in Bellingham on a 1963 PROBAT cast iron coffee roaster and all bags are hand-packed and dated to give customers full confidence in their coffee's quality.
